Glow Culture: A Conversation with Esthetician Lindsey Rapp
Lindsey Rapp didn’t take the traditional path to becoming a skincare expert—but that’s part of what makes her so good. As the founder of Lindsey Rapp Skin, a facial studio in Waterford, Michigan, Lindsey blends clinical knowledge with a calm, thoughtful approach rooted in Korean skincare philosophy. We sat down to chat about her beauty beginnings, her skincare essentials, and why cleansing—yes, cleansing—is still the most underrated step in your routine.
You didn’t start in skincare. How did this all begin?
I actually started in nutrition—I’m a registered dietitian and have my master’s degree. I spent nine years working in hospitals before having kids, and during that time, skincare was something I always loved but never thought of as a career. After I had my first two kids, I finally gave myself permission to pursue it. I went to esthetics school at 33 and was the oldest in my class, which honestly just made me more certain I was doing the right thing.
What’s your earliest beauty memory?
My mom was really into makeup and always bought Clinique. She’d let me keep the free gift with purchase—it was usually a foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick and the yellow moisturizer— I thought it was the chicest thing ever. She also used to do my makeup (and all my friends’) for dances and parties. Beauty was always something fun and creative in our house.
What makes Korean skincare different?
It’s skin-first. It’s all about supporting the barrier, not breaking it down. There’s so much focus on hydration, balance, and prevention—rather than constantly using exfoliants and peels to “fix” things. I think that’s why it resonates with so many women. It’s gentle, but powerful.
What’s your favorite treatment?
My lifting + sculpting facial. It’s a Korean-style treatment that includes carboxy therapy, the Vtox mask, and my signature lymphatic massage. It’s relaxing, yes—but also really effective. I love when clients leave feeling like they’re glowing and just a little more sculpted.
What products or brands do you love?
KRX, Corthe, and Dermathod are my go-tos in the treatment room. They’re all results-driven and skin-friendly. I also love the P-Fecta Solar Elixir Sunscreen—it's loaded with peptides, niacinamide and antioxidants. So it’s an anti-aging serum and SPF all in one product. For makeup, I love Kevyn Aucoin and Armani. It’s all about that barely-there, radiant look.
What’s a skincare mistake you see all the time?
Not cleansing properly. People will invest in fancy serums, but if your skin isn’t clean, nothing penetrates the way it should. It doesn’t have to be complicated—you just need to be consistent and thorough. Count to 60 while scrubbing your face with your fingers. Do it again if you are wearing a face full of makeup.
What’s your beauty morning routine?
Tongue scrape, then a full skincare ritual. Cleanse, essence, serums, moisturizer, SPF. Every single day. No exceptions. Makeup is minimal: NARS creamy concealer, Kevyn Aucoin blush, and Thrive Causmetics mascara. Then I make my caramel almond milk matcha—honestly, the best combo. It sounds serene, but with three kids to get out the door for school, it’s definitely a bit chaotic.
